Safety and Efficacy of Bimekizumab in Patients With Active Psoriatic Arthritis: Three-Year Results From a Phase IIb Randomized Controlled Trial and Its Open-Label Extension Study
Arthritis Rheumatol. 2022 doi: 10.1002/art.42280
This study highlighted that the safety of bimekizumab in patients with PsA over 3 years of treatment was consistent with the previous 48-week results, as well as other recently published studies of IL-17 inhibitors in PsA patients.
Bimekizumab In Patients with Active Psoriatic Arthritis and Previous Inadequate Response or Intolerance to Tumour Necrosis Factor-Α Inhibitors: A Randomised, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Phase 3 Trial
Lancet. 2023 doi: 10.1016/S0140-6736(22)02303-0
This study showed rapid and clinically meaningful improvements with bimekizumab treatment in patients experiencing active PsA and showing an inadequate response or intolerance to TNFα inhibitors. Its chief aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bimekizumab in patients with an inadequate response or intolerance to TNFα inhibitors.
Bimekizumab in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis, Naive To Biologic Treatment: A Randomised, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled, Phase 3 Trial (BE OPTIMAL)
Lancet. 2023 doi: 10.1016/S0140-6736(22)02302-9
This study showed that bimekizumab treatment resulted in clinically meaningful and consistent improvements across multiple measures in bDMARD-naïve patients with active PsA. It aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of bimekizumab in patients with active PsA who were naive to bDMARDs.
Upadacitinib as Monotherapy and in Combination With Non-biologic Disease-modifying Antirheumatic Drugs for Psoriatic Arthritis
Rheumatology (Oxford) 2022 doi: 10.1093/rheumatology/keab905
In this investigation, upadacitinib showed comparable efficacy as monotherapy and in combination with nbDMARDs in PsA. In coming to this conclusion investigators aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of upadacitinib as monotherapy or in combination with nbDMARDs in patients with PsA.
Safety and Efficacy of Bimekizumab in Patients with Active Psoriatic Arthritis: 3-Year Results from a Phase 2b Randomized Controlled Trial and its Open-Label Extension Study
Arthritis Rheumatol 2022 doi: 10.1002/art.42280
In this investigation bimekizumab was associated with a sustained ACR50 improvement. This was highlighted following the attempt to describe the long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of up to three years of bimekizumab treatment in PsA patients
Guselkumab provides sustained domain-specific and comprehensive efficacy using composite indices in patients with active psoriatic arthritis
Rheumatology (Oxford) 2022 doi: 10.1093/rheumatology/keac375
This analysis found that patients with active PsA who receive treatment with guselkumab can achieve robust and sustained low disease activity or remission. In reaching this conclusion investigators sought to evaluate the efficacy of guselkumab for the treatment of active PsA through the use of composite indices.
Effect of bimekizumab on symptoms and impact of disease in patients with psoriatic arthritis over 3 years: results from BE ACTIVE
Rheumatology (Oxford) 2022 doi: 10.1093/rheumatology/keac353
Here bimekizumab was associated with long-term reductions in disease activity and disease impact on patients with PsA. This investigation set out to evaluate the long-term effects of bimekizumab treatment on the key symptoms of PsA and the resulting impact on patient function and HRQoL.
Persistence and Effectiveness of the IL-12/23 Pathway Inhibitor Ustekinumab or Tumour Necrosis Factor Inhibitor Treatment in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis: 1-year Results From the Real-world PsABio Study
Ann Rheum Dis 2022 doi: 10.1136/annrheumdis-2021-221640
Many RCTs have demonstrated efficacy and safety of biologics in PsA. However, long term comparative real world data is lacking. This study aimed to evaluate the real-world effectiveness and persistence of the IL-12/23 inhibitor ustekinumab or a TNFi for PsA 1 year post initiation. As a result, they found that PS-adjusted comparisons demonstrated comparable overall persistence, effectiveness and safety for both modes of action in PsA.
Pharmacological Treatment of Psoriatic Arthritis: A Systematic Literature Research for the 2019 Update of the EULAR Recommendations for the Management of Psoriatic Arthritis
Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases 2020;79:778-786This SLR reviewed data on pharmacological treatment of PsA. Findings informed the 2019 EULAR taskforce when updating recommendations for PsA management. Overall, no new safety signals were reported. Encouragingly, LTEs of JAKi did not report any venous thromboembolic events or PEs. Efficacy was demonstrated for a range of bDMARD and tsDMARD therapies in various disease domains. Efficacy varied between PsA manifestations and between therapies. Observational data demonstrated efficacy when switchi...
EULAR recommendations for the management of rheumatoid arthritis with synthetic and biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs: 2013 update
Ann Rheum Dis. 2013 doi: 10.1136/annrheumdis-2013-204573The 2010 EULAR recommendations represented a significant step forward in the management of rheumatoid arthritis, and they have been widely adopted across the world. However, in the rapidly evolving world of rheumatology, it was recognised that a substantial amount of new evidence has accumulated, both on agents approved at that time as well as data on new compounds that have become available over the last 3–4 years. This motivated EULAR to form an international task force to update their recomme...
