PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
In this activity, JAK Inhibitors – Highlights from ACR 2019, international experts discuss key abstracts and data from ACR 2019 specifically relating to cytokine signalling. The 4 distinct modules in this course focus on a newly approved JAK inhibitor, established JAK inhibitors in clinical practice, emerging JAK inhibitors in phase 3, and data from ACR on treatment strategies such as switching and cycling.
This course, JAK Inhibitors – Highlights from ACR 2019, outlines recent developments in cytokine signalling science in rheumatoid arthritis, and discusses the importance of these new data for clinical practice. The learner’s understanding of the information presented will be assessed following each of the course modules.

Professor Leonard Calabrese
Director & Professor of Medicine, Leonard Calabrese is a Professor of Medicine, Vice Chair of the Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases and the Co-director of the Centre for Vasculitis Care and Research. He also serves as Director of the RJ Fasenmyer Centre for Clinical Immunology at the Cleveland Clinic. He also holds appointments in the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Wellness Institute. He is a graduate of the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. Completed his internal medicine training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, followed by a fellowship in rheumatic and immunologic disease. Professor Calabrese has received numerous awards, including honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and Alma College and the Leonard Tow Humanitarianism in Medicine award from the Arnold P Goldman MD Foundation. He has particular interest in vascular inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, primary and secondary immunodeficiency states and the intersection of infections and autoimmunity. Over the course of his academic research career, Professor Calabrese has authored over 400 publications including book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. |

Dr Neil Basu
Senior Clinical Lecturer of Rheumatology, Dr Basu is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, an Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist, NHS Glasgow and is currently the elected co-chair of the UK and Ireland Vasculitis Society. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Edinburgh, went on to achieve his Postgraduate Medical Training & Training Board in the field of Rheumatology and Internal Medicine. He later went onto complete his PhD in Epidemiology. Dr Basu is a member of the UK Scleroderma study group, an associate editor for Arthritis & Rheumatology, BMC Rheumatology and F1000 Prime Faculty. He has also contributed as an author to several research papers focusing on vasculitis and inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Clinically, he has developed and now lead an almost unique multi-disciplinary vasculitis service, one of the largest in Europe and one of only two health care providers in the UK affiliated with the recently formed European Union Reference Network in vasculitis. Dr Basu’s research seeks to apply descriptively, analytical and translational epidemiological methods to better quantify the burden and determinants of systematic vasculitis with view to informing and executing clinical trials. |

Professor Kenneth Kalunian
Co-Director and Professor of Clinical Medicine, Professor Kalunian is the Co-Director of the UC San Diego Centre for Innovative Therapy, the Director of UC San Diego Lupus Centre of Excellence and is a Professor in the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology in the School of Medicine at UC San Diego. He obtained his Medical Degree at the St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UC Los Angeles, Professor Kalunian is a Fellow, American College of Rheumatology. His research interests focuses on innovative strategies for the treatment of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and is interested in prognostic and predictive factors for outcomes in rheumatic diseases. |
